Accessibility information

The web site conforms to WCAG 1.0 WAI-AAA levels of compliance meeting the guidelines site out in priority 1, 2 and 3.

The basics can be found here (http://www.w3.org/TR/WAI-WEBCONTENT/). The web site has been designed to be very accessible and here are the most important features.

  1. All XHTML is marked up properly using best standards encoded to the XHTML Strict 1.0 document type. (Priority 1)
  2. The language of this document is marked up correctly in the header (Priority 1)
  3. All styling and graphical elements that are not content are defined within the CSS file (Priority 2)
  4. All images have alternative text descriptions (Priority 1)
  5. Key menus and common menus have access-keys assigned and all access keys should be listed in the Accessibility Information document
  6. Tables are only used for tabular data, and will transform gracefully across all devices. All tables will include properly marked up summary and header/column elements. (Priority 1, 2, 3)
  7. Color is not used to convey any key content and the site is usable if viewed on greyscale or black and white, as well as colour displays. (Priority 1, 2, 3)
  8. All enhanced functionality degrades gracefully. The site uses Javascript in places to provide enhanced functionality. If Javascript is unavailable, the site can still perform all of the same function, without loss of any kind. (Priority 1, 2)
  9. Because some devices may have encounter problems with elements of the enhanced user-interface, an option to switch it off it provided to them at the top of the page - this won't be visible to normal web browsers, just text browsers/screen readers.
  10. The site has been designed to work independently of any one platform, so will work on screen readers, mobiles, iPhones, games consoles (PS3, Wii, PSP)  as well as desktop browsers.
